DESCRIPTION:Kopleff Auditorium\n\nDavid Altmejd’s work is a unique and he
 ady mix of science and magic\, science fiction and gothic romanticism: a p
 ost-apocalyptic vision which is at the same time essentially optimistic\, 
 containing as it always does the potential for regeneration\, evolution an
 d invention.\n\nDavid Altmejd was born in Montreal in 1974 and lives and w
 orks in Los Angeles. He studied at the University of Québec in Montréal 
 and graduated with an MFA from Columbia University\, New York in 2001. His
  numerous international exhibitions include a major survey exhibition ‘F
 lux’\, which travelled from Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris 
 to MUDAM in Luxembourg and the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal (2
 014–15). In 2007\, he represented Canada at the 52nd Venice Biennale wit
 h his installation The Index\, and has also been included in the 13th Kaun
 as Biennial\, Lithuania (2021)\; the Liverpool Biennial\, UK (2008)\; the 
 Whitney Biennial\, New York (2004) and the 8th Istanbul Biennial (2003).\n
 \nABOUT THE WELCH VISITING ARTISTS & SCHOLAR LECTURE SERIES\n\nThis year-r
 ound calendar of art lectures provides students with intellectual access t
 o a diverse group of acclaimed artists\, art historians\, art educators\, 
 curators\, and scholars. Our guests conduct on-campus talks about their ar
 t\, research\, and careers\, adding to the pedagogical discourse of contem
 porary art in the classroom and studio. All VAS events are free and open t
 o the public\, an important educational program for the regional art scene
 .\n\nAll 2025-2026 VAS lectures will take place within walking distance of
  our Arts & Humanities main building (10 Peachtree Center Ave SE)\, at Kop
 leff Recital Hall (15 Gilmer St SE) and Student Center East (55 Gilmer St)
 .\n\nPlease provide ample travel time\, as there are street closures and c
 onstruction by the venue. There is City of Atlanta Park Mobile street park
 ing available on Edgewood\, Auburn\, Courtland\, and other adjacent street
 s. \n\nGeorgia State parking decks are also open to visitors for a $10 fee
 . T Deck (43 Auburn Ave NE) is the closest GSU deck to Kopleff and M Deck 
 is the closest GSU deck to the Student Center East\, but more visitor park
 ing information can be found at parking.gsu.edu.\n\nFor those who prefer m
 ass transit\, our campus is directly between two MARTA stops\, Five Points
  and Peachtree Center.
