GSU Library Summer Series: From Sources to Synthesis 
Session 1: Understanding Literature Review Assignments in Higher Education

Join Librarians Charlene and Beth for a foundational lesson on literature reviews. Participants will learn about: 

-purposes of literature reviews 
-types of sources used in literature reviews 
-benefits and challenges of peer-review 
-literature review methods and strategies 
-benefits and challenges of systematic review 

This six-part summer series is designed to help students and researchers build the skills and confidence needed to conduct effective evidence synthesis, from scoping and literature reviews to systematized and systematic reviews. 

It guides participants through the entire review process: from understanding assignment expectations to selecting the right tools, developing search strategies, leveraging AI, and exploring systematic methodologies. Whether a researcher is just getting started or aiming to refine their approach, each session provides practical techniques to support stronger, more organized, and research-backed review projects. Participants can choose to attend individual sessions that best meet their immediate and future needs, or they may elect to attend all sessions for a full learning experience. Participants have the opportunity to obtain a certificate of attendance for each session attended.
