The New Age of Teacher Training with Simulations and AI

Friday, March 6, 2026 | 1:30–2:30 p.m.
Featuring Erin Anderson (Interactive Teaching and Learning Lab) and Jeasy Sehgal (Creative Media Industries Institute)

** All talks take place on the 1st Floor of Library North, 100 Decatur Street SE, Atlanta, GA 30303, and are free and open to the public. Coffee, tea, and desserts provided. **

Step into the future of teacher preparation. In this dynamic session, discover how cutting‑edge simulation technologies and AI‑driven virtual environments are transforming the way pre‑service teachers learn, practice, and grow.

Traditional practicum experiences often limit how fully new teachers can take charge of a classroom—and how much meaningful feedback they receive when they do. The result: many enter high‑stakes teaching with too few opportunities to test, refine, and build confidence in their instructional decisions.

The Interactive Teaching and Learning Lab (ITLL) at GSU, led by Erin Anderson, is changing that reality. Partnering closely with faculty across campus, the ITLL designs immersive virtual experiences where pre‑service teachers can safely practice a full range of teaching strategies—from essential high‑leverage techniques to expansive, adaptive classroom moves. This includes co‑designing innovative AI‑powered learning environments with instructors and their students.

During this session, attendees will learn:

  • The history and evolution of AI and simulation‑based learning in teacher training
  • How the ITLL uses virtual simulations to strengthen instructional practice
  • How to access simulation tools that you can immediately embed in your own courses

Plus, a select group of participants will have the rare chance to practice an expansive talk move with a virtual parent avatar, created through the Vivience Research Initiative at the Creative Media Industries Institute by Professor of Practice Jeasy Sehgal.

Curious? Intrigued? This is your chance to see where teacher education is heading—and to try it for yourself.

About the AI Colloquium

The AI Colloquium is a university-wide speaker series designed to showcase and foster interdisciplinary research and practice using artificial intelligence. The series will feature researchers, thought leaders, and collaborators from diverse disciplines - ranging from computer science to business, law, education, health sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the arts - who are integrating AI into their research and teaching.

Our goal is to create a vibrant intellectual forum that:

  • Highlights the breadth and depth of AI research and teaching across campus.
  • Encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration and understanding.
  • Engages students, faculty, and the broader community in critical conversations about the role of AI in society.
