  State Law builds bridges between academics\, practitioners\, and policymak
 ers. For this year’s State of the South\, we have partnered with Georgia St
 ate Law’s Legal Analytics and Innovation Initiative to showcase how univers
 ities partner with outside entities\, using both traditional and cutting-ed
 ge research techniques\, to move the access to justice needle in the South.
 \n\nAt this year’s conference\, we are highlighting collaborations across t
 he region between university researchers and non-profit organizations and/o
 r government entities\, as well as the challenges and opportunities that ca
 n come with doing such work in the South. We welcome those who have engaged
  in such collaborations\, those who want to learn more about how such partn
 erships come about or operate\, those who would like to engage in such coll
 aboration in the future (either as researcher or research partner)\, and an
 yone who is curious about how such partnerships can advance access to justi
 ce goals. \n\nWe hope you’ll join us from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday\, May 6\
 , 2022\, for this virtual event featuring facilitated conversations between
  researchers and their research partners\, followed by a conversation with 
 funders who provide grant support for access to justice research\n \n\nFeat
 ured projects include:\n\nPublic Policy Research Institute at Texas A&M Uni
 versity\, Harvard University’s Access to Justice Lab\, & The Texas Indigent
  Defense Commission: assessing\, via randomized control trial\, whether hav
 ing counsel at first appearance impacts key outcomes\, such as bond type an
 d bond amountBerkeley Law Policy Advocacy Clinic & Deep Center: collecting 
 data and conducting statewide advocacy and community organizing to eliminat
 e fines and fees imposed on youth and their families in Georgia’s justice s
 ystemUniversity of South Carolina Health Advocacy Medicolegal Partnership &
  Harvard University’s Access to Justice Lab: evaluating primary and seconda
 ry prevention efforts through a medical-legal partnership to determine whet
 her they reduce unnecessary reports to Child Protective Services and improv
 e health without requiring government surveillance of families in marginali
 zed communitiesUniversity of Miami\, University of South Florida & Communit
 y Justice Project: collaborating with Miami Workers Center and Florida Risi
 ng to explore different experiences with pandemic evictions in three Florid

 hed in 2016\, the Center promotes meaningful access to the courts and equal
  treatment in the civil and criminal legal systems in the South.  Through r
 esearch and public education\, the Center helps people in need navigate the
  legal system and trains the next generation of lawyers to serve the public
  interest.\n\nLegal Analytics & Innovation Initiative\n\nStarted in 2018\, 
 the Legal Analytics & Innovation Initiative\, in partnership with the Legal
  Analytics Lab at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business Institute for In
 sight\, works at the intersection of data science and law to improve transp
 arency\, data and access across the legal system.
