It’s Not Me, It’s You is a solo exhibition by Amanda Grae Platner. Through painting and performance, the show delivers the spectacle of a full self and asks viewers to participate in a reciprocal relationship that lets go of their false assumptions. 

 “What motivates my actions differs from what motivates yours. As a person living with Multiple Sclerosis, I experience firsthand how superficial labels and false assumptions surrounding my actions prevent me from being accurately perceived. These experiences have heightened my awareness of preconceived notions and how they prevent us from seeing each other as complex beings navigating the world in our own unique ways. Although MS is the main impetus for my observations, I’m actually investigating empathy through my studio practice. The lack of empathy can lead to isolation, weak relationships, and the inability to explore the world fully. Those who lack empathy lack the ability to acknowledge perspectives outside of their own experiences.”

Amanda Grae Platner is an interdisciplinary artist and 2024 MFA candidate at the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design, Georgia State University. She holds a BFA in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has been featured on WABE’s NPR show City Lights with Lois Reitzes, in Atlanta Magazine, ArtsATL, CommonCreativ ATL, Creative Loafing, Under the Bridge, and Studio Visit Magazine. She was a MINT Leap Year artist and a Hambidge Distinguished Fellow.

The opening reception is March 29th, 7-10 pm. with a performance scheduled from 8- 9 pm.A second performance with take place on April 13th, noon to 3 pm. Artist Talk - April 13th, 3- 4 pm.
