Many of us try to avoid controversial discussions in class when we can, particularly in polarized political times. However, avoiding challenging subjects in class isn't always possible and may not be in the best interest of our students, who deserve a chance to practice addressing challenging problems in a safe space. In this session, we will discuss ways that you can prepare your students for challenging conversations by establishing ethical conversation ground rules, managing the discourse, and ensuring that all students feel heard and engaged. This session is appropriate for Faculty and Graduate Teaching Assistants.
