The Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence’s Juneteenth Celebration: Education as a Gateway to Freedom is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the Creative Media Industries Institute's screening room (25 Park Pl. NE, Atlanta).

Attendees will learn how the newly emancipated took to building schools, which immediately resulted in Historically Black Colleges and Universities and many historical K-12 spaces where freedom meant more than legislative will – it meant access to knowledge and opportunities. Attendees will participate in an exploratory exercise on applying the concept of freedom historically and to Black, Indigenous and people of color in the 21st century.

Kenley’s Catering and Restaurant will provide lunch for all registered attendees. Those who attend will also be provided access to the National Museum of African American History and Culture's Juneteenth resource hub.

Registration is required. To register, click here.
