Widely sharing patient data can enable life-saving advances in translational science. Hospitals and commercial entities have increasingly partnered to share patient data for such work. But little is known about these data sharing partnerships. What are the guard rails hospitals are erecting to protect patient privacy (if any)? What hospitals are receiving in return? How is hospital leadership making their decisions about what industry partners to work with and which ones carry too much risk? This talk will explore interview data from 35 academic medical centers and a survey of ~300 additional hospitals about their policies and procedures surrounding sharing patient data with industry to inform future policy and practice.
