Kick off your Georgia State journey at First-Year Convocation! Convocation happens at universities across the nation and serves the official welcome for new students. At Georgia State, however, we invite the entire Panther family to join us as we welcome our newest students and upper-class students and families are encouraged to join in the celebration. 

Convocation begins promptly at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2 p.m. and all students should plan to be seated by 2:30 p.m. Registration is requested, using this form.

Jessica Mitchell (B.S. ’16), a member of Google’s campus outreach and engagement team, will deliver the keynote address to this year’s incoming class. An economist at heart, Jessica plays a pivotal role in cultivating top-tier talent for internships and entry-level positions. Driven by a passion for crafting solutions that fuel business growth and create positive social change, Jessica is also deeply committed to her community and alma mater. In 2022, she was named a Georgia State University 40 Under 40 honoree, and she was recently inducted into the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2025.

Right after Convocation, the excitement continues at the Panther Welcome Party! Come enjoy free food, music and an overall block party atmosphere. Catch a selfie with Pounce or pile your friends into the giant blue Georgia State armchair. Grab a snack, dance to the music and hang with old and new friends! 

Shuttles will be available starting at 1:30 p.m. to and from the Convocation Center with stops at Piedmont North, Piedmont Central and Patton Hall. Free parking is available in the Convocation Center Parking Deck and across the street in the Blue Lot. The last shuttle will depart at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine.
