Join us for a special film screening and panel discussion of Claude McKay: Wanderings of a Rebellious Poet, a documentary by Matthieu Verdeil that explores the life, travels and enduring legacy of Claude McKay — one of the most influential writers of the Harlem Renaissance.

Through archival materials, historical insight and reflections on McKay’s global journey, the film examines how his poetry and political thought shaped conversations about race, identity, colonialism and artistic freedom in the early 20th century. McKay’s work challenged social norms and expanded the possibilities of Black literary expression across continents.

Following the screening, a panel of scholars and experts will discuss McKay’s contributions to literature and cultural history, as well as the continuing relevance of his ideas in today’s conversations about race, migration and creative resistance.

This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with the life and work of a groundbreaking poet whose voice continues to resonate across generations.
