Mr. Alvin Blount

Alvin R. Blount is a learning and engagement librarian at Georgia State University. He received the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees from Tuskegee University and Mercer University, respectively, and later received the Master of Music and Master of Science in Information Sciences degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He has served as a music director and organist in Episcopal and Roman Catholic dioceses in Georgia and Tennessee for more than thirty years and has performed at venues across the country. An advocate for faculty and community engagement in library and information sciences, Mr. Blount has presented at conferences held by Duke University’s Divinity School, the School of Music at the University of Florida and the National Conference of African American Librarians. When not serving as a library faculty member and providing outreach services at Georgia State’s Perimeter College, you can find him freelancing on any given weekend as a substitute organist throughout the Metro Atlanta area.
