Harris Davis Educational Consulting (HDEC) & Georgia State University’s Alonzo A. Crim Center for Urban Educational Excellence presents a Summer Leadership Institute
June 16-27 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day
(STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics)
The Summer Leadership Institute is a two-week transformative program for 9th–12th graders dedicated to the intentional development of the next generation of Black leaders who will serve their communities, the nation and the world. This immersive summer program for teens experience cultivates confidence, cultural pride and leadership skills through a curriculum rooted in Black history supported through a STEAM curriculum.
Through a culturally responsive curriculum, mentorship and hands-on experiences, participants will gain the skills, confidence and knowledge necessary to lead in their communities and beyond.
This program is more than just education—it is an intentional effort to ensure that Black youth have the tools to shape their own narratives, embrace their heritage and build a legacy of excellence. Each week will incorporate STEAM-based projects that align with leadership development, cultural enrichment and real-world application.
Program Highlights:
✅ Leadership Development: Training future leaders to impact the Black community, local and state governance and global initiatives.
✅ Cultural Enrichment & Competency: Deep dives into Black history, heritage and the contributions of Black leaders—ensuring students gain knowledge of self and a deep connection to their legacy.
✅ Empowerment & Confidence Building: Fostering self-assurance in identity, purpose and ability through mentorship, storytelling and skill-building workshops.
✅ Exposure & Real-World Application: Opportunities to engage with Black professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders through panels, field trips and hands-on projects.
✅ STEAM Integration & Innovation: Each week will incorporate STEAM-based projects that align with leadership development, cultural enrichment and real-world application—encouraging problem-solving, creativity and critical thinking.
✅ Unapologetic & Intentional Education: A safe, affirming space where Black youth can learn, grow and thrive without limitations or censorship. This program is designed to create the educational world we want for our Black children, ensuring they are prepared to lead boldly and leave a lasting legacy of excellence.
Program Structure
🗓 Duration: June 16-27, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m.– 5 p.m.

🎯 Target Audience: Rising 9th – 12th grade students
Each week will focus on a core leadership pillar, integrating guest speakers, hands-on projects, field experiences and STEAM-based activities that connect leadership, history and innovation.
Experiential Learning Components
🔹 Guest Speakers & Mentorship – Featuring Black professionals, entrepreneurs, activists and scholars
🔹 College & Career Exposure – Visits to HBCUs, businesses and cultural institutions
🔹 Field Trips & Hands-On Learning – Museums, historic landmarks, government buildings and Black-owned enterprises
🔹 STEAM Exploration & Innovation – Engaging projects that incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, connecting cultural heritage with problem-solving and future-ready skills
🔹 Capstone Leadership Project – Students create a final project addressing a real-world issue in the Black community
How to Apply
📝 Eligibility: Rising 9th–12th graders with a passion for leadership, cultural empowerment, history and STEAM innovation.
📅 Application Deadline: May 16 with a $250 Deposit
📅Remaining Balance Deadline: June 9 with the remaining $750 to be paid
Mandatory Parent Meeting: Thursday, June 12 at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Georgia State University at the College of Education & Human Development. This is also virtual. You will receive a link upon registration.
