DESCRIPTION:Many students believe they need a perfect plan to succeed in te
 ch\, but real careers rarely unfold in straight lines. In this talk\, Sara
 h O’Brien shares her journey from an undergraduate computer science stud
 ent at Georgia State University to a data scientist at Southern Company an
 d a graduate student in Georgia Tech’s Master of Science in Analytics pr
 ogram. She explores how values\, curiosity\, and community can guide early
 -career decisions\, especially when uncertainty feels overwhelming. Sarah 
 will discuss how to build habits that compound over time\, how to think ab
 out responsible AI from day one\, and how to choose opportunities that ali
 gn with who you are rather than who you think you are “supposed” to be
 . This session includes a quick beginner-friendly data storytelling challe
 nge to show how ethical thinking and human-centered problem-solving can sh
 ape your impact and opportunity in technology. Students will leave with pr

 t at Southern Company and a graduate student in the Master of Science in A
 nalytics program at Georgia Tech. She is a proud Georgia State University 
 alum whose undergraduate experience was shaped by leadership\, mentorship\
 , and a commitment to expanding access to computing. During her time at GS
 U\, she was actively involved in student organizations and initiatives tha
 t supported women and underrepresented groups in tech. Today\, her work si
 ts at the intersection of analytics\, responsible AI\, and human-centered 
 problem solving\, with a focus on building systems that serve diverse comm
 unities. She continues to champion inclusive pathways into tech through me
 ntorship\, data and AI literacy efforts\, and leadership roles in professi
 onal organizations. Her work reflects a commitment to using technology as
